Anglo European Marine
Anglo European Marine Ltd. is an independent Marine Survey and Consultancy company offering a comprehensive boat, yacht and barge survey service. The company is headed up by Balliol Fowden, whose experience is based on a background of 40 years continuous, hands-on and directly relevant experience and study within the marine industry, and 25 years surveying professionally. He has also enjoyed a lifetime of personal involvement with small boats and currently owns and cruises a 100' Dutch motor barge, which also serves as an office and workshop base in Belgium.

Balliol Fowden is a Full & Fellow Member of the Yacht Brokers, Designers and Surveyors Association and we are approved certifying surveyors to the Maritime & Coastguard Agency, the Environment Agency and British Waterways. We are instructed on a regular basis by leading marine law firms on marine litigation cases, and by leading insurers for marine insurance claims. We have taken an active role in consultations on standards and regulations.
One particular speciality is Dutch barges, for which we offer a wide range of additional marine services including new build and conversion oversight and consultancy, and system upgrades. We have been conducting Dutch barge surveys since 1984, in the UK, Belgium, France and of course Holland. Our Dutch barge surveys are recognised by all principal insurers and finance houses.
Another speciality is narrowboat surveys. We started our own business in 1977, building new narrowboats, repairing, lengthening and otherwise modifying existing narrow boats and completely restoring vintage narrow boats, so we have an almost unrivalled degree of practical experience which can be applied to narrow boat and barge surveys.
Whilst centrally based in Warwickshire we have satellite bases in Cornwall and Belgium, and undertake boat, yacht and barge survey and consultancy projects routinely throughout Europe and Scandinavia.
Balliol Fowden is a senior member of the Yacht Brokers, Designers and Surveyors Association, the country's longest established and most respected trade body, overseeing the work and professionalism of its many members.
Our long experience in the marine survey profession means that we have built up a regular and very valued clientele, often stretching back over twenty years. We have a philosophy of ongoing personal service. Once we have made initial contact with a client, perhaps through a pre-purchase survey, we are always ready to provide an ongoing advice service on an informal basis where a client may have the odd question. This is only chargeable if it takes up significant time. 10 minute phone calls cost nothing! Once established on our client list we aim to be your friendly adviser on the end of a phone on any matter within our field of expertise, there when you need us.
