Damage Surveys
A damage survey seeks to establish the extent of damage caused in an incident, e.g. a collision, stranding, fire, and to quantify the likely reasonable cost of repairing that damage and the causation of the incident. It is common for insurance underwriters to appoint surveyors to carry out this inspection and report, and the surveyor may subsequently be instructed to assist in overseeing or approving repairs.
It is also common for an assured party to instruct their own surveyor if they encounter difficulties in progressing their claim or if a further opinion is required.
